NEWSDAY PRESENTS CHECK FOR $32,746 TO THE RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE OF LONG ISLAND

May 5, 2011 - Long Island,  NY - Even in trying economic times, Newsday’s commitment  to the Long Island Ronald McDonald House® continues to shine as they present a check for $32,746 for their contribution towards newspapers sold in Long Island McDonald’s restaurants for 2010.

On Friday, May 13th at 10:30 a.m., Newsday’s Publisher Terry Jimenez will be presenting a check to the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island and Matt Campo, the Executive Director of the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island.  Ronald McDonald and some Long Island McDonald’s owner and operators will be present as well.

This is a result of an ongoing program for approximately 17 years now. The check presentation will take place at the Long Island Ronald McDonald House located at 267-07 76th Avenue, New Hyde Park, N.Y. 11040.  The check represents fifty percent of the sale from Newsday papers sold in Long Island McDonald’s restaurants for 2010.

We are so excited to have this wonderful program in place with Newsday says Luciana Montuoro, Long Island McDonald’s Marketing & PR Director,  knowing that every time a customer makes a Newsday purchase in a Long Island McDonald’s, Newsday donates 50% to one of Long Island’s best kept secret…the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island !

In November 2002, the Board of Directors at the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island embarked on a $5 million journey to more than double the size of the existing facility.  The reason for this project was to help alleviate the pressures the resident managers face daily when forced to turn away families in need.  The new building, consisting of 24 bedrooms along with expanded community areas, has allowed the House to serve approximately one thousand families each year.

The Ronald McDonald House of Long Island provides families a home-away-from-home during their child’s treatment for a serious illness at local hospitals.  Since 1986, the House has served more than 15,000 families, with more than half coming from Long Island and the boroughs of New York.  The warm and supportive atmosphere of the House combined with the ability to be at their children’s bedside within minutes, is priceless to families during difficult times.
